Verna Lee Melohn, 70, lived in Ivan, LA. She passed away on April 14, 2017, Good Friday, due to complications with her lung disease.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the residence of the family.
Verna was born in Santa Ana, CA, to Clair Connor and Vina Geraldine Baldridge Underwood. She was the oldest of three daughters. During grade school years, her family moved to Orangevale, CA. A few years following high school, she met a young man and they married in 1969. When he returned from Vietnam they started their family and had two daughters. Over the years, they lived in several states, including Massachusetts, New Mexico, Nevada, and Louisiana, and Italy. She worked over twenty years as a paralegal and executive secretary to the Director of Northwest Louisiana Legal Services. Throughout her time there she learned a lot about family law in Louisiana. She was also a notary public.
When Verna was younger, she enjoyed being an active member in Elvis Country and Elvis Angel's Fan Clubs. She played an active role in the Annual Candlelight Vigil during Elvis Week at Graceland for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clair Connor and Vina Geraldine Underwood. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Michael C. Melohn; daughters Melodee Melohn Bivens, her husband Chuck Bivens, and Heather Melohn; grandson Tristan, sisters Sheila Paquin of Mineral Wells, TX, and Elaine Bratten, her husband Greg Bratten of Orangevale, CA, many cousins, nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Willis Knighton in Bossier and Promise Hospital for their care and attention towards her in her final months.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Disabled Veterans.
