John Henry Skinner, Sr. Shreveport, LA Longtime Shreveport resident, John Henry Skinner, Sr., passed away from natural causes on September 18, 2010. He was 86 years old. Mr. Skinner was raised in Hicksville, OH. Mr. Skinner enlisted in the US Marine Corps during WWII, serving bravely in combat during Pacific battles for Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. Post war, Mr. Skinner graduated from The Ohio State University, got married to his college sweetheart, and went to work for Marathon Oil Company as an Exploration Geologist. His career brought him to Shreveport in 1964. Mr. Skinner is a past Vice President of the Shreveport Geological Society, past YMCA Baseball Coach, and a member of the American Legion. This beloved family man is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn; daughter, Susan Skinner of Baton Rouge; and sons, John, Jr. and Richard, both of Shreveport, and brother, Robert and wife June of Coldwater, MI. The family is thankful for the professionalism of Clarence Teagle, MD and the staff and nurses of the Garden Park Nursing Center, and for their kindness in Mr. Skinner?s final days.
