Bossier City, LA - James Franklin (Washington, Lee, Grant, Wallace) Walker, Jr. SMSgt, Ret. passed away on September 17, 2014. James was born on September 4, 1926 in Tarrant City, AL. Gone before him were his beloved wife of 61 years Clara Crider Walker (1931-2010); his beloved daughter Sheila Gay Walker Moore (1952-2002); Parents and a host of other relatives and friends. Left to cherish his memory is his only surviving child Sandra Walker Hand and husband Steve; Pam Crider (sister-in-law), Harry Walker (brother) and Edna Walker McCullers (sister) all of Birmingham, AL. There are also numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends. James joined the Army Air Corp in 1944 and retired from the USAF in 1970. During those years of service he was in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam. He became a Free Mason in 1962 and remained such until his death. He had many honors, medals, ribbons and accomplishments throughout his life. Among a few are: The Bronze Star, Medal of Commendation, witnessed the detonation of the first hydrogen bomb on Eniwetok Atoll in 1952, Senior Olympic Gold Medal Recipient, Horseshoe Champion Extraordinaire which spanned over 50+ years, Red Cross Volunteer Medals and Ribbons. He never met a stranger, and was there for anyone at any time, lending a helping hand or the shirt off his back. Daddy was loved by all and will be greatly missed. I, Sandra, the only surviving child will honor and keep my family's legacy alive with PRIDE. "Remember The Walkers". I would like to thank all that helped and loved Daddy, Springlake Guest Care and Grace Home. My heart is broken but I know Daddy, Mom and Gay are together with the Lord. In this, I Rejoice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to any Veteran charity or one of your choice.
