A memorial service celebrating the life of Mr. Ira Edwin Daye will be held at Red River Baptist Church, 3301 E. Linton Rd., in Benton, Louisiana, at 11 A.M. on Friday, October 30, 2015. Burial with military honors will follow at Lay Cemetery. Family visitation will be held at Boone Funeral Home, 2156 Airline Dr., Bossier City, on Thursday evening from 5-7 P.M.
Mr. Daye, 86, died peacefully at his home in Benton on October 23, 2015. Mr. Daye was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Doris Hamilton Daye, in September of 2014. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Karen Daye, of Hessmer, and two daughters and sons-in-law Amy and John Terracina of Katy, TX, and NancyBeth and Patrick Vogler of Shreveport. Mr. Daye had eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Daye was born on June 8, 1929, in Flint Springs, Kentucky, to the late Arthur Daye and Eva Carwile Daye Null. He was also preceded in death by his only sister Mildred Daye Blackledge. Mr. Daye was a resident of Benton for 50 years.
Mr. Daye enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1947 and retired from active duty in 1969 as a staff sergeant. He was a combat veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He also retired from the Shreveport Times in 1994.
Mr. Daye loved his wife, his family, his men's Sunday School class, his country, and his Savior. He also had a deep affection for his cats and chocolate.
