Shreveport, LA-Dorothy Tyler Kilgore, age 89, passed peacefully on September 21, while a resident at Christus Schumpert Grace Home. She was born February 7, 1918 in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana to Ralph "Jack" and Molly Bell Cole Tyler. She was the third child of seven children in the Tyler family. She retired from Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation Payroll Department in Houston, TX on December 12, 1984 after 29 years of service. After retiring in Houston, TX she returned to Shreveport and continued her active lifestyle. She built a new home and enjoyed decorating it and taking care of the yard. She delighted in her home and family. She was an amazing cook, gracious host and a talented gardener. In her leisure time she derived much enjoyment in watching and following various sporting events: the annual NCAA basketball tournament, NASCAR racing events and college football games were her favorites. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Shreveport, the Maida Mickle Sunday School Class, Texas Eastern Retirement Club, Christus Schumpert Hospital Guild and her homeowners association. She received so much enjoyment working as a volunteer for 18 years in the gift shop at Christus Schumpert Hospital on Margaret Place. Touching so many, her passing invokes lasting impressions for she was a mother, grand-mother, sister, aunt, friend and co-worker. She was preceded in death by her husband, C.M. "Shorty" Kilgore. Surviving Dorothy are her four children by previous marriage, Cecil R. Gilcrease and wife Judy of Sugar Land, TX; D. Jeanette McKnight and husband Ed of Simpsonville, SC; F. Don Gilcrease of Shreveport, LA; and Billy George Gilcrease and wife Sue of Cedar Park, TX. She also is survived by seven grandchildren: Scott Gilcrease of Alexandria, LA; Craig Gilcrease of Golden, CO; Piper Landgrebe of Cedar Park, TX; Charles Holland McKnight of San Marino, CA; Dr. Ed Douglas McKnight of Birmingham, AL; Peter Gilcrease of Austin, TX; Christian Gilcrease of Austin, TX, Susan Kimball of McKinney, TX; Michael Gilcrease Shaw of Little Elm, TX, as well as 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two of her sisters, Mozelle Jamison of Pleasant Hill, LA and Corrine Betros of Deer Park, TX. Friends are cordially invited to a memorial service to be conducted on Thursday, September, 27, at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel of First United Methodist Church, located at the head of Texas Street in downtown Shreveport, with Dr. Pat Day officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are the members of the Maida Mickle Sunday School Class from First United Methodist Church. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Grace Home for the outstanding care and support they provided Dorothy and her family during her final illness. Dorothy and her family request that, in lieu of flowers, tax-deductible contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 1567, Shreveport, LA 71165-1567.
