Altha Chance

d. May 20, 1915

After growing up in Leesville, Altha married Willie Chance from Hornbeck, Louisiana, on September 25, 1936. They lived both in Hornbeck and in Elizabeth, Louisiana, for many years before moving to Houston in 1970. They returned to Louisiana in August, 2000, to be near two of their children. Willie (Bill) died in August of 2001. Altha was a homemaker. Her devotion to her family and her God were non-pareil. She taught Sunday School in every church she attended, and she used her considerable musical talent in serving the Lord as a pianist and a singer. Altha was a great cook, and it was the special delight of family, pastors, visiting preachers, missionaries, and friends to feast at her table and to enjoy the special loving atmosphere in the home of Willie and Altha. She worked hard, laughed easily, and lived her life in such a way that she was a role model to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Altha was also preceded in death by her sisters and brothers: Allie Williams, Alice Burns, Arlington Cavanaugh, Atherton (Cavie) Cavanaugh, Ariel B. Cavanaugh, Avis Cole, Azalea Williams, Aderine Killen Gremillion, Avon Cavanaugh, and Annie Laurie Hicks. She is survived by daughter Marilyn Gay Woosley and husband, Robert, missionaries to the Philippine Islands; daughter Carole Ezernack and husband, Bert, of Benton, Louisiana; and son Wilton Chance and wife, Diana, of Benton, Louisiana. She is also survived by grandson Allan Woosley and wife, Valerie, of Louisville, Kentucky; grandson Anthony Ezernack and wife, Lenore, of Houston, Texas; grandson David Woosley and wife, Stefanie, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; grandson Joseph Ezernack and wife, Wendy, of Houston, Texas; grandson Christopher Chance and wife, Mary, of Alvin, Texas; granddaughter Amy Woosley of Houston, Texas; granddaughter Kimberly Chance Pizzaro and husband, Antonio, of Shreveport, Louisiana; eleven great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. "Grammy" will be missed by all whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
