Dr. Gerald Ronald Garner, 90, of Frierson, passed away on February 11, 2022. A memorial service was held at Forest Park West Cemetery in Shreveport on February 17, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.
Gerald was born on January 15, 1932 in Amity, Arkansas to Milton and Jewel Garner. He was married on April 4, 1958 to Evelyn Gilliam Garner. During their 63-year marriage, they had two sons; Russell Keith and Michael Scott.
Gerald was a veteran having served our country in the United States Navy. Gerald received his PhD in Clinical Nutrition. He became a professor and administrator at Southern University in Shreveport where he was proud to educate many students and enjoyed working with the faculty members there at the college.
Gerald loved living the country life in Frierson raising cattle with his son, tending his chickens and harvesting vegetables from his numerous gardens. He was also an accomplished artist and took pleasure in oil painting creating scenes that depicted farm life and nature.
Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Reba Guy, and his sons Russell Keith Garner and Michael Scott Garner.
Gerald is survived by his wife Evelyn Gilliam Garner, daughter-in-law, Anne Garner, and his three beloved grandchildren Alyssa Marie Garner, Mason Keith Garner and Amber Shaye Garner.
