Jimmie Ray Davis, 76, was born in Minden and went to his forever home on January 31, 2022 with his loving family by his side. The family will receive guest between 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM, Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Boone Funeral Home.
Jimmie was raised in Springhill and graduated from Springhill High School in 1963. After graduation, he married Kay Hill, his high school sweetheart. From their happy marriage they had two daughters. His career took him from Springhill to Texarkana with International Paper. After thirteen years, Jimmie and Kay felt a call to the mission field and moved their family to Waco, Texas, where they served with World Hunger Relief. He made multiple trips to Haiti and worked in horrible working and living conditions. Their mission in Haiti was to drill water wells, and teach locals to support themselves in their every day lives. Often, they supported college students from Texas A&M and Baylor University, as they taught locals how to raise animals and how to use compost to enrich the soil for gardening. After serving as a Missionary, he worked with Daniel Thomas Construction. In 1987, he decided a career change was needed and went to business college and studied computers. After college, he began a career with Christus Schumpert on St. Mary Place. He worked there until his retirement in 2009. In his spare time, he loved fishing, traveling, playing dominoes, various cards, and reading western novels.
When his grandchildren came to visit, a card game of “Hand and Foot” was sure to start. All of them, were so competitive that Kay sometimes had to referee. Papaw was just as competitive as his grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling to Texas to play 42 Domino tournaments.
Preceding Jimmie in death is his father, Robert Issac Davis; mother Normie Beatrice Edwards Thomas; brother, Robert “Bug” Davis; and step-father, Walon Howard Thomas. Jimmie loved his family deeply and spent his life helping others in need. Within the last year, Jimmie planned a reunion for all of his siblings to be together. It was his dream to have all of them under the same roof to share their life stories. His legacy will continue on through this reunion and through his family.
