Helen June Souders

d. December 17, 2021

Helen “June” Souders, age 86, of Shreveport, LA passed into the arms of her Savior on Friday, December 17, 2021, with her beloved daughter and adopted granddaughter by her side. June was born on June 23,1935 in Bethlehem, PA to Russell M. Cool and Helen May Cool, who preceded her in death. As a Navy wife she lived at many duty stations, including Midway Island, one of her favorites. The family always returned to the family home in Norfolk, VA. June worked as a restaurant manager for many years and retired in Chesapeake, VA where she loved pier fishing and playing bingo. She moved to Greenwood, LA in 2000 to be near her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her daughter and family and going out to eat whenever possible. She loved her many friends at Greenwood Elderly Apartments. She was funny, fiercely loyal and always up for a party. She has resided the last four years at Heritage Manor West nursing home. The staff became her family, and she could often be seen heading towards her bingo game two days per week. June is survived by her daughter, Ginny and husband Ken Bryan of Waskom, TX; grandsons Mark Germany and wife Shea of Denton, TX; Ken D. Bryan and wife Courtney of Austin, TX; adopted granddaughter Lisa Rae French and husband Steve of Bossier City, LA. She is also survived by her beloved nephews and nieces who frequently called her. Waiting in Heaven for June are her parents and her siblings; Russell Cool Jr., Dorothy Cool Wood, Richard Cool and Delores Cool. A celebration reception and family visitation will be held 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Crossroads Church, 1701 Old Minden Rd., Bossier City, LA 71111, located on the backside of Bossier Crossroads Shopping Center. She will be interred with her parents and sister at Fairview Cemetery in Bethlehem, PA at a later date. The family wishes to thank the staff at Heritage Manor West for their loving care especially during the difficult last 2 years when they had to be her family when we could not, due to the pandemic. And a special thanks goes to Life Path Hospice and her friends Frances and Bunny who helped care for her in these last days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Oakwood Home for Women, Shreveport, LA, your local animal rescue or charity of your choice.
