Obituary of Michael Stuart Sims

Michael Stuart Sims was born on October 29, 1968 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He passed from this life on February 2, 2021. From high school, Michael enlisted in the US Army, serving his country for 8 years. He was stationed in Germany and was injured while serving in Somalia. That injury would become disabling later in life. Michael received the Armed Forces Expeditionary medal, and medals for National Defense, Humanitarian Service and Foreign Service Abroad. After leaving the military, Michael settled in Detroit, Michigan with his wife and children. He worked and ran his own business as a contractor in the Detroit area for years. Michael returned to Shreveport several years ago. Eventually he settled in the Southern Hills area, where he was raised by his grandmother JoAnna Fissel. Michael is preceded in death by parents, Thomas E Sims, Jr. and Linda Sims. He is survived by children, Michael and Melanie Sims; brother Thomas (Trey) Sims; sisters Sara Bird (John Bird), Suzanne Sims, Shelley Halbert (Rick Halbert); uncle John Sims (Marilyn); aunt Toby Hay; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service to be held at a later date and Michael will be laid to rest at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Keithville, Louisiana.
