James was born April 4, 1932 in Logan Kansas and passed away on September 3, 2009 in Bossier City. J.B. retired from the United States Air Force after proudly serving his country for twenty years. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars working primarily as a B-52 mechanic. After retiring, he worked 20 years and retired from the local GE transformer plant. Grandpa never met a stranger. He was a happy, outgoing person that loved to fish, watch football (especially his beloved Tampa Bay Bucs) and coach his granddaughter?s soccer team or watch soccer with Hunter. He loved to tell jokes and laugh with friends and family. His mischievous grin and twinkling blue eyes let you know that he was always up to something. More than anything in the world he loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was so proud of them all. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Louise Dawes; daughters, Barbara Reece Norton, Kathryn Dumas and husband Michael, Letha Courtney and husband Jerry; grandchildren, Sonja Ray and husband Richard, Josh Howell and wife Kimberly, Samantha Harris and husband Marcus, and Hunter Austin Courtney Jr. Dawes as well as fourteen great-grandchildren. J.B. is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law Theresa Pearson and Irene Scott whom he loved dearly. J.B. will be greatly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His family is greatly saddened by his loss but they are comforted that he no longer suffers on this earth. He is in Heaven telling jokes with friends and family at the perfect fishing hole.
