Maritza G. Tovar-Chavez, 17, of Benton, Louisiana entered into eternal rest on April 29, 2015 after a brief illness.
Born December 5, 1997 to Juan and Maria Tovar, a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Maritza was a well- rounded young lady loved by all who knew her. She was involved in numerous extracurricular activities and sports at Benton High School. While maintaining a 4.0, Maritza was also a Girls State nominee, Regional Young Author's Contest winner 2013, a member of cross country and track teams, SADD, INTERACT, FCA, and a member of the soccer team. She was also an intern for The Robinson Film Center, Grease play participant, member of Spanish Club and producer of Spanish Club movie, a published author for Vita Latina Magazine, and Benton High School's representative for JAWS (Journalists Aspiring to Work in Sports) in conjunction with the Tim Fletcher show and Friday Football Frenzy writing about football games and taking photos. She was also a member of Homecoming/Prom committees, Yearbook Editor, Ring staff, National Honors Society, Academic rally participant, STEM scholar, and a member of the Engineering club.
Maritza was survived by two sisters, Miriam P. Tovar, 15, Ashley A. Tovar, 4, and brother Isaac B. Tovar, 2 and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends.
The funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 1 at 4 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 425 McCormick Street, Bossier City. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bank of Ringgold (Cypress Branch) in memory of Maritza Tovar - 1-877-894-3402.
