Bossier City, LA - Mary Elizabeth Hood Bailes went to be with her Lord and live eternity with her husband, parents and other loved ones Thursday morning, June 14. Born December 26, 1937, in Corinth, Louisiana, to Leonard and Inez Hood, Mary Elizabeth and her family settled in Red Chute and later, Bossier City, in the 1950s. She was a graduate of Haughton High School. Mary Elizabeth went on to business school and later became an executive secretary at United Gas, then met the love of her life, Jack Bailes. They were married in 1968. After having her only child, Sonja, and staying home with her for a number of years, Mary Elizabeth joined Plantation Park Elementary as school secretary in 1977. She later moved to Central Office. Mary Elizabeth worked in a number of departments at the Bossier School Board before being promoted as former Superintendent Ken Kruithof?s secretary, until she retired. Mary Elizabeth was a beautiful person, inside and out. Her smile was radiant, her disposition, gentle, and she was a caregiver in every sense of the word, particularly for her grandson, Jackson, who was her pride and joy. Family was very important to Mary Elizabeth. Those who knew her best knew how much she looked forward to ?Squirrel Day? and the big Brazzel Reunion each year. She was also a long time member of Airline Baptist Church. Mary Elizabeth is survived by daughter, Sonja Bailes-Bain and husband, Randy; grandson, Jackson; a step-daughter she was very close to, Denise Bailes Bennett, her husband, Jack, and their children, Sean and Samantha; step-son, Danny Bailes, wife, Alyson and their children Ivan, Quinn, Payton and Mariah. She also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation for Mary Elizabeth Bailes is from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Boone Funeral Home in Bossier. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Airline Baptist Church, followed by burial at Corinth Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brazzel Reunion Memorial Inc., 809 T&P Lane, Abilene, TX 79602-3099; 4007 Corinth Baptist Church, 4237 Hwy 545, Dubach, LA 71235 or Airline Baptist Church, 4007 Airline Drive, Bossier, LA 71111.
