James Milton Harper

d. December 26, 2020

James Milton Harper Jr. was born in Birmingham, AL on June 18, 1955 and passed away suddenly on December 26, 2020 in his home.  Jimmy was the beloved son of Jim and Doris Harper.  He is survived by his mother Doris Harper (died 1-8-21) and his two broken hearted sisters Dianne Harper Wilkinson and Betty Harper Stanley.

Although never married, family was most important to him.  He shared Christmas Day gumbo with his mom and sisters.  He hugged each one and said, “   I love you.”  What a precious memory we carry in our hearts.

Jimmy was a hard worker and was liked and respected by those with whom he worked. Jimmy was best known for his wonderful smile and his generous heart.  He loved to have a good time, prepare and eat good food, be with good friends and other “lake trash.” It mattered not your station in life and so he had many friends.  Whether fishing, hunting, playing pool, partying or at The Cove, he lived life to the fullest. He was a member of Mangum Memorial United Methodist Church where he was an active member of the youth group.  He also attended Simple Church. He was a member of the American Legion and American Pool Association.

Jimmy was a part of the Cross Lake Flotilla Board of Directors which offered a wonderful outlet for families and groups to celebrate this special resource of our city.  Jimmy had a heart for others. Poker Run and Cross Lake Golf Tournament were fun ways to raise money to give to local charities as well as opening your own wallet.

Since his death, many have inquired about a memorial service.  Betty and Dianne would like to accept the offers that have been made to cook (The Cove) and sing (Monty Russell).  We will celebrate a life well lived when it is warmer and will use all social means available to let you know when and where.

Share, Love, Give, Laugh.  Your heart will be full.
