Morris Rae Brown Shreveport, LA-Morris Rae Brown, born May 7, 1925 in Castor, LA, passed away August 7, 2009, at Heritage Manor Stratmore in Shreveport, LA, where he had been a resident for the past two years. ?Boots?, as he was known to family and close friends, was preceded in death by his parents, Morgan R. Brown and Idell Holloway Brown. Also preceding him in death were his siblings, Ellis Brown, Evelyn Brown Lewis, Eula Brown Thoms, and Glen Brown. Survivors are nephews and nieces, H.M. Lewis and wife, Alice, of Port Barre, LA, Thomas Ellington Lewis and wife, Martha-anne, of Bossier City, LA, and Louise Clanton and husband, Don, of Shreveport, LA. Mr. Brown was a graduate of Fair Park High School, LSU, and New York University where he attained a Master?s Degree in English. He taught English for twenty-five years in the New York City public school system. Previously, he was employed as an export salesman for Jones Lawton Steel Company and was a bank teller. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Association and the United Federation of Teachers, NYC, New York. After graduating from high school, Mr. Brown entered the United States Army on August 30, 1943. Arriving by glider on D-Day, he received the rare Bronze Arrowhead Device due to his participation in the initial invasion at Normandy, fought at Ardennes (The Battle of the Bulge), Rhineland, and Central Europe. While serving in Europe, he was wounded in Holland and received the Purple Heart. He was discharged January 31, 1946. Mr. Brown spent most of his adult life in New York. After retirement, he returned to Shreveport where he had family. Mr. Brown was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Heritage Manor Stratmore in Shreveport, LA on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at 2:00 pm. Officiating will be Amador Santos, Chaplain of Agape? Hospice. The family would like to express appreciation to Agape? Hospice and for the many who genuinely enjoyed and faithfully cared for Boots while a resident of Heritage Manor Stratmore.
