James Oliver Scott, Sr.

d. August 29, 2019

James Oliver Scott, Sr. was born in Belmont Mississippi in 1920 to Boliver and Victoria Scott, James grew up in a large farming family where he became an expert farmer, hunter and fisherman, passions that would follow him throughout his life.

Volunteering for the Army, James rapidly completed training in armor and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations in World War 2 at locations including campaigns in the Philippines Islands, Marshall Islands and Okinawa.  He attained the rank of Sergeant, before being demobilized at the conclusion of the war.

Despite his love of the rural life, he missed the far horizons he'd seen in the service and enlisted in the newly formed Air Force, where he served with distinction over a long career, retiring in 1974 at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.

Returning to the interests of his youth, James hand-built his own house near his beloved Toledo Bend Reservoir and pursued to a long "second career" as a fisherman, hunter and gardener, where the bounties of his harvests were enjoyed by his many friends and neighbors.

Mr. Scott passed away in Shreveport, Louisiana on August 29, 2019 at the age of 98. He is survived by his sons, Terry Rogers, James Scott, Jr. and Bob Scott, two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and four siblings.
