Jessie Eugene Smith

d. December 25, 2020

Eugene was born on March 26, 1938 in Winnfield, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his parents Judge and Geneva Smith, one brother A.U. Smith and two sisters, Carmel Smith Lonadier and Loyce Smith Clark.

Left to cherish Eugene’s memories is his wife of almost 53 years, Helen Cox Smith of Carthage, Texas. His son Michael and wife Susan Howell Smith of Shreveport. Three grandsons, Kevin Smith of Tyler, Texas, Josh Smith and wife Stephanie; Ryan Smith and wife Kaylia of Stonewall, and six great grandchildren: Cameron, Kyzer, Wyatt, Stryker, Makenna and Roman.

Eugene retired from GNB Battery Plant after working there for 35 years where he also served as the plant chaplain for several of those years. He was a quiet, humble hardworking man, but it would not take long for anyone to realize Eugene was devoted to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; he longed for everyone to know the saving grace of God as he did. He dearly loved his wife, family, and friends, and was always eager to give a helping hand to anyone. Among the things he enjoyed was reading the Word of God, prayer, rabbit hunting, horses, and raising and selling Beagles. He never missed planting his garden every year so he could enjoy fresh vegetables. He also liked motorcycles, and in his younger days enjoyed riding his 1947 Harley Davidson Knucklehead.

A memorial service to honor his life will be on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Boone Funeral Home located at 2156 Airline Drive, Bossier City, LA 71111:
