Shreveport, LA - A memorial service for Thalia White Gunn will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 17th at St. James Episcopal Church, Shreveport, with the Rev. William R. Bryant officiating.
Mrs. Gunn was born in Mansfield, La on August 25th and died at Willis Knighton South in Shreveport on February 9th, following a brief illness. She had been a resident of Shreveport for most of her life. A graduate of Dodd College and Centenary College, she majored in education and taught at Werner Park School until she retired in 1969 to work with her husband in his soil stabilization business.
She had many interests including being a pilot; earning the rank of Senior Navigator at a time when women were not allowed to be members of the Power Squadron, and participating in craft shows throughout the area. In her later years, she was active in the Dodd College Alumni Association and volunteered at the Barnwell Center gift shop. Preceding her in death were her parents Thurmond S. and Lalia Hurst White, her husband Wayne Dorwin Gunn, and her sister, Martha Hatcher. She is survived by one niece, Marty Cloud and her husband Duane; three great nieces, Kathy Turner and her husband, Randy; Karen McDonald and her husband, Keith; Kristin Ponder and her husband, Jerry; and one great nephew, Richard Cloud and his wife Cyndi; fourteen great, great nieces and nephews and their numerous children. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Garden Park Nursing Center for their loving care of Mrs. Gunn for the past two years.
