Benton, LA- Mr. Ellison Ray DeMoss, 87, of Benton, LA, was taken home to be with our Lord on Thursday, September 4, 2014. Funeral services for Mr. DeMoss are to be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at 11 A.M. at Boone Funeral Home, Bossier Chapel, with Pastor Danny Moffett officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Plain Dealing. The family will be receiving friends at Boone Funeral Home, Bossier, from 5 to 7 P.M. on Monday, September 8, 2014. Mr. DeMoss was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Laveta DeMoss, and parents Ernest and Sybil DeMoss. Mr. DeMoss was born in Plain Dealing on April 5, 1927. He was proud to be a US Navy World War II Veteran who served as ships cook 2nd class; but it's been said he worked the radio more than the stove. His ship, The USS Caliente, was highly decorated for fulfilling her dangerous missions of carrying fuel into battle areas around Japan and the Philippines. After marrying the love of his life, he and Laveta, made Benton their home for over 50 years. Five years ago Mr. DeMoss was graced to find love again and married Glenna Thurmon of Benton. He retired from Citgo Petroleum after 45 years of employment. Mr. DeMoss always had a smile and a kind word for people who had the pleasure of meeting him. Mr. DeMoss is survived by his wife of 5 years Glenna T. DeMoss, three sons, Mike DeMoss and wife Glenda of Monroe, David DeMoss and wife Jodie of New Orleans, and Bart DeMoss and wife Donna of Benton, and his twin sister Faye Quarles of Arlington TX, ten grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. He is also survived by three step-sons, Ronald McDonald of Bossier City, Andrew and Philip McDonald of Benton. Special thanks to the staff of Willis-Knighton, Promise, and Garden Court for the loving care given during his illness. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Ray's honor to "Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org.)
