Walter Holder

Memorial services for Walter Harrison Holder, Sr., 83, will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Broadmoor United Methodist Church in Shreveport. Walter was born May 19, 1928 in Lake Worth, TX. He passed away on September 19, 2011 in Shreveport, surrounded by his family. He was raised in Natchitoches, attending Northwestern, later receiving his BA from Louisiana Tech. Walter served his country in the Marine Corps. He received an MA in education from LSU. He was awarded National Science Foundation Grants and continued his education at Texas A&M and Oklahoma University. Walter was a coach, teacher and retired as Supervisor of Attendance for the Caddo Parish School Board. From their opening until 2010, Walter happily dealt blackjack at the Hollywood/El Dorado Casino, eventually becoming their friendliest and oldest blackjack dealer, entertaining his fellow employees and customers with his stories. Walter was preceded in death by his parents and brothers. Left to cherish his memory are daughter, Patricia Holder, son Walter H. Holder, Jr. and mother of his children Nell Holder.
