Stephen Morrow Waller was born on July 16, 1947. He died surrounded by family on March 11, 2024.
Steve grew up in Haynesville, LA, and played football for the Haynesville High School Golden Tornado. He graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches before earning his Juris Doctorate from the LSU Law Center in Baton Rouge. He raised a family and lived the rest of his adult life in the Shreveport/Bossier area.
A dedicated public servant, Steve worked as an Assistant District Attorney for the Caddo Parish Juvenile Court. He finished his 29 year career with the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office as the head of the Homicide Screening Division. He believed in the rule of law and was committed to defending and preserving public safety.
Steve, an avid fan of all sports, also served his community by being a volunteer coach for numerous teams, from T-ball to high school football. Through coaching he loved and supported so many young players, including his own children and their friends. He was a staunch supporter of Haynesville High School and LSU athletics. He loved spending time outdoors on the family farm and in his retirement became a prodigious reader.
Steve was a good friend, a good citizen, and a good man who protected and provided for his family. He was utterly devoted to his wife and children who adored him.
He was predeceased by his parents, Kathaleene and Donnie Waller, and by his brother Jeff Waller. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Becky, and by his children, John and wife Mary Lea, Justin, Jeanne-Anne and husband Will Moore. He was Papa to his grandchildren, Michael, Paige, and Chelsea Waller, Nadia Waller, Anson and Beau Moore. His love for them knew no bounds. Clint Broughton, Ryan Harris, and Matt Harris are beloved nephews. He also leaves sisters-in-law Judy Waller and Nina Harris, along with cousins and countless friends.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
The family wishes to extend its deepest gratitude to the Claiborne Parish first responders and the dedicated nurses and staff in the SICU at Ochsner LSU Health.
