Silwyn Elaine Foster Elkins
Elaine Foster Elkins passed away and entered into heaven from this earthly life to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on January 28, 2025 in Ruston, LA after having several strokes at the age of 93. She was born May 5, 1931 in Spearsville, LA and was the first-born child of Edith Spears and Benjamin Troy Foster. A visitation will be held at Boone Funeral Home in Bossier City, LA 3:00-5:00 PM Monday, February 3, 2025. Graveside services will be held at Mount Union Baptist Church in Spearsville, LA at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 4, 2025 with Bro. Ken Weaver officiating.
She was a member of Barksdale Baptist Church in Bossier City and just before she started her illness she joined Dayspring Ministry in Ruston, LA, but her heart was with Barksdale Baptist Church.
In her early years she attended college in Hammond, LA and later married Carl D. Elkins, Jr. on June 15, 1951. They were married for 42 years when he preceded her in death. Carl was in the military and she lived in several states over the years, California, Hawaii, Texas and settling in Bossier City, LA. She was a homemaker and also loved to travel, play dominos, play bean bag baseball at the senior center, and she made sure if someone was sick or the neighbors had a family member to pass, she would take food, her famous zucchini bread or peanut butter cookies. She also made sure her brother-in-law (Bruce) and niece (Heather) got peanut butter cookies when they visited. She loved playing cards with her card party ladies, and looked forward to that each week. Her yard and flowers were her pride and joy and she strived for her yard to be the best looking, weed less yard on the block. Her hobbies included crocheting, making hot pads and baby blankets, ceramics, reading and doing her word find books. She also told the story of teaching two very sweet neighbor girls to crochet.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edith and Troy Foster, a brother Johnny D. Foster and a brother-in-law Dr. Charles H. Nash.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sisters, Patsy Foster Nash of Shreveport, LA and Cynthia F. Haney (Bruce A. Haney) of Ruston, LA and sister-in-law RoseMary Foster of Mandeville, LA. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Eddie Foster (Candy), DeWayne (Frog) Foster and Debbie Moore (Rick), Craig Nash and Regina Rambin, Graham Haney (Carla) and Heather N. Fontenot (Jeremy) and a host of numerous great and great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
We would like to THANK her friends and neighbors who faithfully took her to doctor appointments, grocery and clothes shopping, to her card parties, to church, to get her medicine, out to eat and all the other acts of kindness you expressed to her since her husband passed, were very much appreciated. A special thank you to Judy Norman who sat with her when I (Cindy) needed a break or had a doctor appointment myself and played dominos or cards with her. She really enjoyed you when you came.
Pallbearers will be Graham Haney, Jeremy Fontenot, Tanner Fontenot, John-Michael Fontenot, Eddie Foster, Bruce Haney, Tom Elkins and Hez Elkins.
Although she is gone, she is forever in our hearts. Memorials can be made to Barksdale Baptist Church in Bossier City, LA or Dayspring Ministry in Ruston, LA.
