Philip Joseph Galano was born in Warren, Ohio on September 6th, 1947 to Adam and Olivia Galano, and instantly, the world became a better place. He was the last of five children and the only son.
At an incredibly young age, he lost his father, and became devoted to filling his father’s role as comforter, protector, and provider.
He went to Warren G. Harding High School, graduating from one of the largest classes to walk that stage.
He served in the United States Army as a young man, and traveled to Italy, Germany, and Switzerland during this time.
Philip returned to the states and began his 34 years of service for General Motors and the UAW. During this time, he met his wife, Linda (Yanick) Galano, and their union lasted nearly 50 years. He would joke that, “he could have committed crimes and done a shorter sentence!”. He was always making others laugh, although everyone knew, she was the love of his life.
They had 2 daughters, Angela (Salih) Harvey and Christine/Tina (Mikie) Morgan. There was not anything he would not do for his girls. He gifted them with many lessons of respect, worthiness, ambition, kindness, and faith in God. A motto he stood firm by was, “Kill ‘em with kindness!”. He never met a stranger.
Having come from 4 older sisters and 2 daughters, you can imagine his elation when his grandsons arrived. Javanni and Slade were his most rewarding accomplishments. He was so proud to have the boys join him with all the ladies. He felt blessed he was given the opportunity to watch them grow into fine young men. They always have and will continue to make him proud.
He was a consistent and reliable resource to his mother in law, Laura, who couldn’t get enough of him, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, sisters, brother and sister in laws, co-workers, friends, daughters, and wife. He made everyone feel as if they were his favorite, when, in fact, he was everyone’s favorite. He could light up any room with joy, yet only expected a good conversation or smile in return. Anyone that encountered him, walked away a happier, better version of themself. He had that effect on people.
Philip transferred from the Lordstown, Ohio GM plant, to Shreveport, Louisiana late in his career. He retired in Shreveport, but retirement never stopped him. He worked for Red River Casino, where a unique friendship began that brought him and his wife to becoming full-time nannies to 2 little girls. They kept them remarkably busy and brought a lot of joy into their household. Sutton and Amelia will severely miss him.
He enjoyed playing video poker, attending family functions, fishing, running the roads with his son in laws, picking on his grandsons, heart-to-hearts with his daughters, and attending local theater productions with his wife.
He leaves behind to honor his memory, his wife, Linda, 2 daughters, Angela (Salih) Harvey and Tina (Mikie) Morgan, 2 grandsons, Javanni and Slade, and a host of family and friends. He also leaves behind his sole, surviving sister, Rosie, whom was his biggest fan.
His loved one’s vow to carry on his generosity, compassion, character, lessons, conversations, sarcasm, loyalty, devotion, friendship, leadership, reliability, and faith.
He taught to love with no judgement. Be kind to others; It costs nothing, takes little effort, and results in smiles, and seeing other’s smile, was his ultimate reward.
He passed on 07/11/2020. He did not want a funeral. He did not want people to be sad. We honor his wishes. Instead, we want everyone to celebrate him! Our dear husband, daddy, papa, guardian, friend, and mentor………………………. Go Fly High with the Angels.
