Peter James Woodard was the sixth child of eight children born to Cornelius Woodard, Sr. and Ethel Lee Woodard on June 5, 1958 in Shreveport, Louisiana. After a long illness, the Lord called him home on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. His parents, two sisters: Adell “Betty” Woodard Tullous, Earnestine Woodard Flowers and three brothers: Leon Woodard (infant death), Cornelius Woodard, Jr and Robert Lee Woodard preceded him in death.
He confessed his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. James Baptist Church by the late Reverend Charlie Henry. He fought a good fight until he was called home on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 12:45 am. He attended Hanna Elementary School and Coushatta High School. During his life, he worked various jobs including Almond Brothers Lumber Company (Coushatta) and Budweiser Eagle Distributing (Shreveport) until disabled.
Peter loved to laugh, talk and visit with family and friends due to his happy go lucky personality. He acted as a barbecue pitmaster during our family and friend gatherings which included his famous barbecue ribs, smoked wings and sausage. He also enjoyed managing the Woodard family home with technology and various home improvements. Peter endured many battles with disability and illness, showcased immeasurable strength for many years and never complained. During one of his final conversations, Peter shared with his sister, Von, his wishes and reflected on his deceased parents and siblings. He talked about his own faith and readiness to depart this world, business matters, had phone calls with family members and listened to Aretha Franklin’s “Amazing Grace" and James Cleveland’s “Where is Your Faith” before slipping into a peaceful state.
He leaves to cherish his memories: His Son, Kylie Haskett of Shreveport, Louisiana, (2) Sisters, LaVonne Bennett (aka Von) of Arlington, Texas and Idell Fortenberry of Shreveport, Louisiana, (2) Sister-In-Laws, Gloria Jean Woodard of Bossier City, Louisiana and Barbara Woodard of Highland, California, (1) play-sister, Lisa Williams of Shreveport, Louisiana, Nieces: LaTonya Flowers of Irving, Texas, Cordelia Tullous of Irving, Texas, Ashley Woodard of Highland, California, Destiny Bennett of Plano, Texas and Nadajalah (Nadi) Bennett of Aubrey, Texas, Nephews: Jervise Locke of Charleston SC, Eric Woodard of Bossier City, Louisiana, Maurice and Jessica Woodard of West Covina, California, Desmond Bennett Jr. of Arlington, Texas, Great Niece and Nephews: Malia Woodard, Evan Woodard and Elijah Woodard and a host of relatives and friends.
