Born December 21, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York. Martin served 26 years in the United States Army and 4 years in the United States Marine Corps before retiring from the Army as a 1st Sergeant. While in the service, Martin completed 4 combat tours in Vietnam earning 2 purple hearts and 2 Bronze Stars for Valor in Combat in addition to numerous medals for extensive service and bravery during combat. Martin was a soldier in the truest sense of the word, and lived his life for God, Country, and Family. Most recently he was an active lay person and senior warden at All Saints Reformed Episcopal Church. He will be remembered for his colorful personality, immaculate garden he kept at home, and his love for all animals, especially his two cats Smoky and Mai Tai. Martin is survived by his wife, Jan Braswell of Shreveport, sister Ruth Reeves of Selah, WA, brother Harry Evans of Phoenix, AZ, and his children Marcia Cosgrove of Fort Myers, FL, Brian Evans of Columbus, GA, Andrew Evans of College Station, TX, and extended family in Corbin, KY. Funeral Services will be handled by Boone Funeral Home, with a viewing at 8 am on Thursday, July 2nd followed by a full military burial at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville at 10 am.
