Martha “Jodi” Huffman Shepeck came to rest peacefully on November 12, 2022 in Shreveport, LA after bravely battling an advanced illness the last several months.
Jodi was born on August 1, 1946 in Lewisville, AR to her parents, Bertis and Stella Mae Huffman. She met the love of her life, Richard Shepeck – at the time, a young airman from Menominee, MI stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, and they were married on June 17, 1968. From there she embarked on the ever-changing and often colorful life of a proud military wife and mother of daughters.
After being stationed in more than a dozen cities, both stateside and abroad, they returned to where it all began, and settled in the Shreveport/Bossier area permanently.
Jodi was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was fun and funny, full of life and energy, and could always be counted on for captivating (often hilarious) stories from growing up in rural southwest Arkansas and south Louisiana, to her days as a bartender in Florida to help support her family. All told in her very endearing, animated fashion. Everything she did was with her whole heart and there was nothing more important than her family. True to form, she was a spitfire till the end, and such is her legacy that carries forward through multiple generations.
Jodi is survived by her loving husband Richard, her daughter Shelley Pate and husband Dwayne, her daughter Amanda Miniutti and husband Doug, step-daughter Virginia Alley and husband Lonnie, her grandson Joshua Pate and his wife Stormi, her granddaughter Elizabeth Simon, her granddaughter Jessica Frye and her husband Hayden, her grandson Jacob Pate and his wife Alyse, all of Shreveport/Bossier; her son-in-law David Barlow, her grandson Thomas Barlow and his wife Tiffany, her grandson Justin Barlow and his wife Angel, all of Prescott, AR; great-grandchildren Hunter, Kinleigh, Teagan, Zayne, Jordan, Colby, Bowen, Emma, Aubrey, and Calder. Surviving siblings are Ella Mae Garren [Jim], Mary Manhein [Bill], Shelia Cover [Jerry], and Keith Huffman; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Linda Barlow.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Jodi’s name to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) https://www.dav.org/ or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital https://www.stjude.org/.
