With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Linda Dance Powers on Wednesday November 17, 2021. She was a loving wife, mother, and friend to all those whose lives she touched.
She was born Linda Jean Dance on August 26, 1948, to Gordie and Florrie Gantt Dance. She was married to Dr. Charles Powers, her husband of 20 years. She was beloved mother to Laura Davis Walls (Patrick) and Warren Davis (Mary Elizabeth). She grew up in Arcadia, Louisiana with her sister Johnnie Ingram Graves (Tom) and brother Robert Dance. She took great joy in her role as grandmother to Thomas and Jackson Davis and is remembered by her nephews Jeff, Michael, David and Slater, and niece Mary Claire. Through her marriage to Charles, she gained three bonus children and five grandchildren: Andrew Powers (Jennifer) and daughters Lucy and Hanna, Michael Powers (Frannie) and son Charlie, and Katie Powers Konfara (David) and their son Sam and daughter Dylan.
Linda graduated from Arcadia High School in 1965 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northwestern University in Natchitoches. She enjoyed a multi-faceted career that spanned over 25 years, finally retiring as Chief Nursing Officer for Willis-Knighton Hospital in 2015. She played the piano, had a beautiful singing voice, and loved digging in her flower beds. Her smile and laugh were contagious, and she had a brilliant sense of humor. She was strong-willed and determined, yet gentle and kind. Her favorite pastimes included reading, antiquing, and visiting garage sales, especially if her sweet dog Clover was allowed to come.
A memorial service will be held on Monday November 29, 2021, at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 10:00am with service immediately following.
