LaVerne Hyde Tisdale

d. April 10, 2016

Born on October 15, 1920, (Mary) LaVerne Hyde Tisdale (Mother, MeMe, Aunt ,"Bern", Vern), passed through the portals of death to a new LIFE, at age 95, on April 10, 2016, to be forever with her Lord. Trusting in God was her mantra, and she leaned on Him throughout her long life. She loved her God, her family, her church friends, and doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. MeMe was their special grandmother and non-judgmental friend. LaVerne is predeceased by her father and mother, Oscar Corley and Nena Lewis Hyde; her brother, Oscar C. Hyde, Jr.; her sisters, Lee Myrtle Hyde Wakefield, and Katherine M. Hyde; nephews, Jason Hyde and Richard L. Wakefield III, and niece, Margaret Wakefield Pryer. She leaves behind to grieve, yet to rejoice in her victory, her daughter, Judith Ann Tisdale Carson (Tom); granddaughters, Sarah Elizabeth Carson (Chad Ledet), and Lorin Michele Carson Johnson (Buzz); great grandchildren, Landon Thomas Ledet, Shelby Elizabeth Ledet, and Kylie Anne Johnson; fifteen nieces/grandnieces/great grandnieces (special niece, Janene Hyde Paul), and ten nephews/grandnephews/great grandnephews, many dear friends and her two companion cats, Zoe and Callie, who will surely miss their daily treats from her. LaVerne was born, and grew up in Colfax, LA, married an Air Force man and moved to Erie, PA. After she and her infant daughter were deserted, they moved back to Colfax to the home of her mother. As a selfless, single mother, LaVerne worked tirelessly for many years to provide for Judy, her only child, and the love of her life. Over the years, she worked as Deputy Clerk of Court in Grant Parish, as secretary for a law firm, in medical records at Schumpert Medical Center, Shreveport, attended and graduated (as a middle-aged woman) at the top of her class at Spencer Draughan Norton Business College, Shreveport, and retired from Central State Hospital, Pineville, after fourteen years as executive secretary to the staff in the Psychology Research Department. She then moved to Haughton, with her daughter and son-in-law, and helped, with great pleasure, raise her granddaughters, Sarah and Michele. A lifelong Methodist, singing in the choir of her hometown church, LaVerne was a charter member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Bossier City. She loved her "Friendship" Sunday School Class there, a group of mature, loving individuals, for whom she was the official timekeeper. She loved animals, "her" birds (especially the hummingbirds), and flowers, always with a fresh bouquet on her table. She always looked for the good in people ("He probably needed shoes for his family", was said about a burglar of a local Payless Shoe Store), and never allowed circumstance to taint her positive demeanor. LaVerne loved God and lived her life as one who always desired to become, "More like Jesus". After living a long and productive life, she leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, discipleship, stewardship and love. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. Igbal Singh and to Regional Hospice R.N. Robyn Watkins and to C.N.A. Toni Smith, for their compassionate, loving care of MeMe. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on April 15, 2016 at Boone Funeral Home, Airline Drive, Bossier City. Services will be on 11:00 a.m. on April 16, 2016 at Boone Funeral Home Chapel. Conducting this celebration service will be Rev. Jessi Garrison and Rev. dawn young. Honoring LaVerne as pall bearers will be Clay Hyde, Christopher Morris, Nicholas Morris, Justin Morris, Dr. Chad Ledet, D.C. and TSgt Kyle Paige, USAF, Air National Guard. Members of the Friendship Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. Interment will be at Hill Crest Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, she requested that contributions be made to LASPCA or The Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana.
