With broken hearts and thankful spirits the family announces that Kat is in the arms of her Savior and with her beloved children, Charlie and Dianne. Kat married the love of her life, Charles William “Billy” Walker on September 8, 1967, after the long courtship of six weeks. “Sweet William” as she called him and Kat were happily married 56 years.
Services and visitation will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024, at The First Baptist Church of Keithville, 6295 Williams Road, Keithville, LA. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM until the service time of 10:30 AM. There will be a private interment of her cremains at a later date. Officiating will be her pastor and friend, Rev. Michael Stowell.
Born on July 20, 1948, to Swepson and Margie Greening, Kat passed away at WKN on July 6, 2024, due to complications of heart disease.
She is survived by Billy Walker; Jason Evans Walker (son) (Jyssika); Margie Ann Collins Greening, mother; brothers Rodney Greening (Paula); Reggie Greening (Donna); sister-in-law Brenda Greening, Leon Walker (Reba), and a host of nieces and nephews and faithful friends.
Preceding her in death were children Charles “Charlie” William Walker, Jr., Cynthia Dianne Walker; Swepson B. Greening, her dad, Swepson B. Greening, Jr., her brother.
Kat was employed by CPSB where she made many life-long friends. She was a flower gardener extraordinaire and an excellent cook. Her apple pie was her signature dessert but miniature coconut and chocolate pies were often fought over at church functions. Kat purchased a case of pie plates to have enough to make pies for Wednesday night church meals.
Carla Watts was her quilting partner; Harry and Bonnie Soloman were her and Billy’s traveling buddies; and Joy Shaw her good friend. Kat was loved by her church family and The JOY Class and is already beyond missed! FBK has had the honor of her serving/directing the nursery, the cemetery committee, the grounds committee, the refreshment committee, the decorating committee, and any committee Kat decided she wanted to serve on! She was the best-dressed little force to be reckoned with! She was a church decorator at all of the JOY Class functions always bringing her table cloths, Arthur Court, crystal platters, and bowls! Christmas parties will never again be that well-decorated!
The family expresses love and appreciation to Bro. Mike Stowell and the First Baptist Church of Keithville for their love and support today and always. Kat grew up in Emmanuel Baptist but has been a twenty-four year member of FBK.
Her motto was “if you’re gonna take the time to do it, then do it right!” Kat was solid, shot straight from the hip with little or no sugar-coating, and was on the side of right!
The family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude’s or FBKeithville in Kat’s memory.
