Johnnie Rae Lewis, 87, Bossier City, LA, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2023.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 at Boone Funeral Home in Bossier City. A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Forest Park West in Shreveport, LA. Pastor Scott Teutsch of Trinity Heights Baptist Church will officiate.
Johnnie Rae was born in Shongaloo, LA on October 5, 1935. He was a proud graduate of Shongaloo High School and went on to serve in the United States Navy before returning home where lived with his family in Shreveport, LA for many years.
Johnnie Rae was married to Shirley Harwell on October 18, 1958. He was a loving and devoted husband until her death in 2013.
He worked as an outside salesman for Graybar for many years before retiring and then returning to work at Consolidated Electrical Distributors to retire a second time.
Johnnie Rae was an avid fisherman. Legend has it, the only time he would every curse was on the water! He was also a history aficionado, taking a specific interest in WWII. There wasn’t a fact that he didn’t know. John enjoyed being a family man above all else. He was a member of Grawood Baptist Church.
Johnnie is survived by his granddaughter, Heather Lea Willis and great-granddaughter, Carly Rae of Bossier City; granddaughter, Riley Cheyenne Lewis of Shreveport; sister, Elizabeth Harkins of Springhill, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father Horace Lewis and mother Blanche; wife Shirley Harwell Lewis; brother, Major Lee Lewis, and wife Lius; son, Johnnie Carl Lewis and wife Terri Lea; daughter Mauri Willis.
The family would like to express their unending love and gratitude to the staff at the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home for their love and devoted care of “Johnnie Lew from Shongaloo” for the last five years. Truly, they are angels on this earth.
