Jerry Lay

It is with great sadness that the family of Jerry Lynn Lay Sr. announces his passing. Jerry was born on June 5, 1949 in Knoxville, TN and passed away on September 23, 2024 at the VA Hospital in Shreveport, LA due to effects of Alzheimer’s Disease. 

Life is about different seasons, and Jerry had many different seasons in his 75 years. He was proud to have served his country in the 60’s and remained a patriot of his country throughout his life and encouraged all to show his country respect. He was self-educated on so many subjects and skills from politics to driving a dirt track race car. His profession throughout life was a “damn ole house painter”, that is what he would say. He has impacted so many lives throughout his life by taking the time to teach his skills and his everyday life lessons. Jerry was a giver by nature, he truly loved to help anyone in need. To be in his presence would make you want to be better, work harder and just do more! I cannot even describe the love that he showed for his family and friends, but you knew that you had it, and it was without flaw. 

Jerry was preceded by his parents Timothy David Lay and Alice Marcell Norman Lay of Knoxville, TN; Brother Timothy David Lay "Tim" of Huntsville, AL; Brother Donald Lawrence Lay "Duck" of Nationwide, USA; Brother Thomas Steven Lay "Luke" of Bossier City, LA. 

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife Brenda Kay Jackson Lay of 55 years; Son Jerry Lynn Lay Jr. and wife Melissa Deann Sears Lay of Sarepta, LA; Son Terry David Lay and wife Leslie Gwyn Lay of Southaven, MS; Daughter Christina Marcell Lay Hunsucker and husband Eric Michael Hunsucker of Haughton, LA.; Brother James Radolph Lay of Haughton, LA.; Brother Michael Terry Lay and wife Linda Lay of Abilene, TX.; Grandson Austin Garrett Lay and wife Madison Clair Tyler Lay of Sarepta, LA.; Grandson Hunter Michael Hunsucker of Kileen, TX; Grandson Dallas Landon Lay and wife Maeci May Lay of Sarepta, LA; Grandson William Henry Hunsucker of Vincenza, Italy; Grandson Gunner Lynn Hunsucker of Savannah, GA; Grandson Beau David Hunsucker of Haughton , LA ; Granddaughter Adrienne Jasmine Lay Kaufman and husband Robert Kaufman of Lake Cormant, MS; Granddaughter Alexis Jewel Lay Hernando, MS; Granddaughter Mayra Elizabeth Hunsucker of Haughton, LA; Granddaughter Londyn Grace Daugherty of Southaven, MS; Granddaughter Lauryn Taylor Lay of Southaven, MS; Great Grandson Westyn Michael Hunsucker of Bossier City, LA; Great Grandson Harrison David Kaufman of Southaven, MS; Great Granddaughter Hazel Mae Hunsucker of Bossier City, LA; Great Grandson Hayes Lynn Kaufman of Southaven, MS; Great Granddaughter Delta Clair Lay of Sarepta, LA; Great Granddaughter Elizabeth Austin Lay of Sarepta, LA.
