Jeffery Hazen

Jeffery Alan Baker Hazen, 42, lost a courageous 3-year battle with brain cancer on Friday, November 19, 2010. Visitation will be at Boone Funeral Home in Bossier City, LA on Monday, November 22nd from 5 ? 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 23rd in Faith Chapel at First Baptist Bossier at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Dr. Fred Lowery and Justin Haigler. A graveside service will be held in Florida. He was preceded in death by his two Dads: Gary Wyatt Baker and Richard Sherrill Hazen; his paternal and maternal grandparents; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his loving parents: Patricia and John Cox; brother: Curry Baker; sister: Theresa Hunsicker and husband, Newton; sister: Pam Clinton and husband, Jason; sister: Lori Mixon and husband, Ronnie; and beloved nieces and nephews: Nikki, Scott, Zach, Gary, Chelsea, James, Ben, Kristin, Hillary, Addison, Peyton, Megan, Misty, John, Jeremy, Lana, and Kasey along with his extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins. Jeff was an amazing man whose goal in life was to make others happy and make a positive impact in the world. He served in the Air Force for 5 years as a Munitions Specialist allowing him to travel throughout several countries and visit 44 out of the 50 United States. He put himself through college and graduated from the University of New Orleans and received his Master?s from the University of Colorado. Jeff fulfilled his life?s dream to live and teach in his beloved city of Denver, Colorado where he was a 7th grade Social Studies teacher at Falcon Creek Middle School. ?Mr. Hazen?, as he was affectionately known by his students, was named Teacher of the Year in 2007. Jeff also traveled to Africa to help build an elementary school and volunteered his time at an orphanage in S. Korea. He was an advocate of recycling and helping the planet. Jeff prided himself that one of his greatest accomplishments was being accepted as an OFFICIAL ?Summers Sister.? In lieu of flowers, a college scholarship fund has been set up in his name in Denver, CO or the family requests that you make a donation to a charity of your choice. The family would like to express their appreciation to: Dr. Fred Lowery, Justin Haigler, Robyn Watkins, Debbie Pervis and the nurses and medical staff at Grace Home, St. Joseph?s Hospital (Denver), LSU Cancer Treatment Center, Cat & Gabi Olivares, the Summers Sisters, Amy Crossland, Yvonne Beahm, Dr. Michael Angelo, Bill Ledbetter and the countless friends that took care of Jeff in Denver. Thank you, as well, to his classmates and friends from Airline High School and to each of the hundreds of people who prayed for Jeff. Jeff died believing in Jesus Christ. A special thanks to ?Uncle Ted?, AKA Dr. Fred Lowery, who was Jeff?s friend AND enabler for milkshakes, donuts and apple fritters. Jeff will be remembered by all who knew him for his love of life, devotion to friends and family, snarky wit, and his incredibly positive attitude throughout his life and illness.
