James Talley

November 6, 1943 — March 20, 2025

James W. ”Jimmy” Talley, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Born as the fifth of seven children, Jimmy was a beacon of strength and kindness, embodying the values of family and community throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy Talley, and his parents, George H. Talley and Bessie Talley. Jimmy also mourned the loss of his siblings: Janice and Bub Wayenberg, Richard and Alla Talley, Dot and Joe Russell, and Barbara Talley. His family, however, continues to thrive, carrying forward the love and lessons he imparted.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife, Neale Reeves Talley, and his children: Julie and Otis Ward of Port Neches, TX; Joy Talley and Melanie Bergeron of Beaumont, TX; Jeff and Tia Talley of Sugar Land, TX; Chris Ferguson of Natchitoches, LA; Beth and Johnny Robinson of Wellington, FL. He was a proud grandfather to 20 grandchildren and a doting great-grandfather to 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Jerry Talley of Shreveport, LA; Sandra and Lynn Sasser of Livingston, TX; Bobby and Terry Talley of Bossier City, LA; and a multitude of nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.

A proud graduate of Fair Park High School in Shreveport, LA, Jimmy was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served his country with honor. After his military service, he dedicated over 33 years to the Kansas City Southern Railway, culminating his career as the Superintendent of Haz-Mat Training. In 1998, he proudly earned his college degree from Louisiana State University in Shreveport, a testament to his commitment to lifelong learning.

Jimmy was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Bossier City, LA, where he found community and fellowship. A lifelong LSU Tiger fan, he passionately supported his team, sharing that enthusiasm with family and friends.

Above all, Jimmy was known for his fiercely loving nature and his giving heart. Our precious Pawpaw cherished his family deeply, always putting their needs before his own. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, as they remember his laughter, wisdom, and unwavering support.

A celebration of his life will be held on March 29th at 11:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Bossier City in the Chapel. As a lifelong LSU fan, Jimmy would be thrilled to see a sea of purple and gold! If you’d like to join in, please wear your favorite LSU gear or your own favorite team jersey to help celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in his memory, reflecting his spirit of generosity and love for others.

Jimmy will be profoundly missed, but his love will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
