Lt. Col. (Retired) James Donald Lee passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Guest Care at Spring Lake. Jim was born September 15, 1933 in Cleveland Virginia. He was a resident of the Shreveport Bossier City area since 1968 when he was stationed at Barksdale AFB. During his Air Force career, Jim was a flight instructor at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma. He served with the 40st and 310th Refueling Squadrons at Schilling Air Force Base in Salina, Kansas, and Dow Air Force Base in Bangor, Maine. After serving a year in Viet Nam, where he flew A1E reconnaissance missions, he was stationed at Barksdale AFB, with the 71th and 913th Air Refueling Squadrons. He was awarded The Air Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. After retirement from the service, Jim was employed for 20 years as a draftsman for BaLaR Engineering. Jim was preceded in death by his mother, father, two brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his wife, Mary, a stepson, Bob Childs of Bossier City, his four children from a previous marriage, Mr. & Mrs. James. D. Lee II of Rockledge, Florida, Annette Lee, Laura Lee King, of Shreveport, and Mr. & Ms. Joseph M. Lee, of Baton Rouge, seven grandchildren, and one great grandchild. A graveside service with Jim Freeman officiating will be held Monday, December 23rd at 1:30, Veteran's Cemetery, 7970 Mike Clark Road in Keithville. An Open House will follow the service in the home of Annette Lee. Special thanks to his dear friends Mr. and Mrs. Warren Kwiecinski who have been true and loyal friends and to his neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. John Mullins, for their interest and care. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
