James Carroll Lawrence

d. February 25, 2015

James was 76 years old, born May 28, 1938 in Little Rock, AR. He died in Shreveport, LA on February 25, 2015. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 5, from 3:30 - 5 at the Boone Funeral Home at 2156 Airline Drive in Bossier City, LA. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held from 5-6, immediately following visitation, also at Boone Funeral Home. At a later time, in a private ceremony, his ashes will be scattered on the Red River. James was preceded in death by his father, James Amon Lawrence of Little Rock, and his mother, Melva Glenn Lawrence of Bossier City. James is survived by: his wife, Sue (Hernandez) Lawrence of Shreveport; his sister, Carolyn Lewis of Shreveport; three sons, Doug Lawrence and his wife Michelle of Texarkana, AR, Greg Lawrence and his wife Holly of Shreveport, and Kelly Lawrence of Winnfield, LA; a stepdaughter, Sharon Champagne, of Shreveport; one grandson, Ben Lawrence of Texarkana, and one granddaughter, Isabel Lawrence of Shreveport. He is also survived by one nephew, Miles Lewis of Shreveport, two nieces, Gina Lewis of Alexandria, VA., and Kim Vereen and her husband Marc of Bastrop LA, and one grand nephew, Vince Vereen of Bastrop. James was a graduate of Centenary College, a veteran of the USAF, and a well-known and highly-respected CPA, practicing in Shreveport for the last 49 years. He was the sole proprietor of Lawrence Consulting located on E. Bert Kouns. For the last 20 years, his administrative assistant, Jane Hosack of Bossier City, has been invaluable to him, especially during the last few years of his failing health. James was trusted implicitly by his many long-term individual and corporate clients. He was known for his unmatched knowledge of tax law, his uncanny skill in financial problem-solving, and perhaps most of all for his easy-going approach to life. He rarely allowed life's inevitable difficulties to interfere with his light-hearted, positive attitude toward anyone he met. His jolly laugh was contagious, and his sense of humor was appreciated by all who knew him. He will be sorely missed, especially by his family, who turned to him so very often for wise advice and counsel.
