It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a great man. James W. Higdon, Sr. known by most as Mr. Wayne, died at the age of 80 on October 26th, 2024. While his death was sudden and tragic, his family finds comfort in knowing that he is at eternal peace after living a life marked by hard work, integrity, and unwavering dedication to his family.
Mr. Wayne was a man of strong values and exceptional work ethic, He devoted 40 years of his life to the offshore drilling industry, retiring in 2009. After a brief retirement, he began his second career with Caddo Parish as a compactor operator. At “the dump” he knew no stranger. He spoke with everyone that came through as if they were lifelong friends. His dedication to his work was matched only by his commitment to providing for his loved ones.
During his latest years, Mr. Wayne found tremendous happiness and purpose in caring for Trinity, his great -granddaughter. She was the center of his universe. Her happiness and well-being were always his highest priorities.
Mr. Wayne spent countless years hunting and fishing with family and friends in Red River Parish. He spent his early years hunting and fishing with his cousin, Robert May and his friend, Richard DeLeon. His passion and love for deer hunting was passed along to many of his children and grandchildren. During deer season, if he was not at work, he was at the deer camp, which many considered to be his second home.
Wayne was married to the love of his life, Patsy, for 60 wonderful years. Together, they built a beautiful family, creating a legacy of love and support that will continue for many generations to come. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always putting his family first. He was always extremely proud of his family and their accomplishments.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Patsy Higdon, sister, Effie Comeaux (Johnny), three sons, James Higdon (Pam), Chris Higdon (Michelle), and Kevin Higdon (Renee), seven grandchildren,Chris Massenburg (Makenzie), Dale Higdon, Justin Higdon (Caitlyn), Dylan Higdon, Bailey Higdon, Aden Higdon, and Leyton Higdon, and nine great-grandchildren, Isabella Massenburg, Annelise Massenburg, Audrey Higdon, Trinity Waters, Troy Higdon, Paxton Higdon, Alayna Higdon, Braxton Gilcrease, and Liam Higdon, who will continue to honor his memory.
He is preceded in death by his father, Bay Higdon, his mother, Mary Logan, brothers, Alan Higdon and Larry Higdon, and one son, Anthony Higdon.
A celebration of James Wayne Higdon, Sr.’s life will be held on November 2nd at Boone Funeral Home. In Bossier City, Louisiana. The visitation will be from 10am-12pm, with the memorial service to begin at 12pm. A meal and fellowship to celebrate and share memories will be immediately following the service at St. Ann’s Chapel 2260 Hwy 171 Stonewall, LA.
