Joyce was born August 16, 1937, in Ben Hurr, Texas to Alonzo Berry and Emma Lanier. She graduated from University High School, Waco, Texas in 1956. She married the love of her life, Herman Palmer, on June 30, 1956. Together they spent 21 years in the Air Force. After retirement they moved to Shreveport, Louisiana where she worked part-time for the Caddo Parish Tax Department for 15 years and later worked part-time for the City of Shreveport Tax Department for over 5 years. After retiring from work, they enjoyed many years of traveling to various places visiting friends and family along the way. Their travels included playing golf, cards with friends and music in Mountain View, Arkansas.
She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church since 1974 where she taught 4th grade Sunday School for over 20 years. Cooking was one of her specialties she enjoyed very much, including cooking Thanksgiving dinner for the church. She was devoted to her family, who will miss her dearly, but can celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her Lord and Savior.
