Herbert Wesley Goad, 86, of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at his home on October 5, 2024.
Born in Tatum, Texas, on September 3, 1938, Herbert was a loving husband, a caring and supportive father, and a cherished grandfather. Known for his willingness to help and his generosity of spirit, he touched the lives of everyone he met.
Herbert graduated from Tatum High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business from Centenary College of Louisiana and a Master of Education in Health Care from Central Michigan University. A staunch patriot, he served his beloved country in the United States Army and later in the Texas Army National Guard and Air Force Reserves.
His strong work ethic was evident in his dedication to his career in medicine and teaching. He retired after 33 years at LSU Medical Center where he served as the Director of the Clinical Lab. During this time, he also taught Allied Health courses to medical students.
Herbert was an active member of his community as evidenced by his devotion and commitment to his church and other organizations. A born-again Christian, he was a faithful and longtime member of the Noel United Methodist Church. Herbert also served as the president of his Neighborhood Watch and president and assistant founder of the Northwest Louisiana Shetland Sheepdog Club in Shreveport.
Though a man who fully participated in life, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends while creating lasting memories filled with love and shared wisdom.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents Harry Wesley and Nelda Tatum Goad, his sister Mary, and her husband Jerry Cloud, who was also his best friend.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patti; his 2 daughters: Beth Anderson and husband John, Laura Williams and husband Tron (deceased); 7 grandchildren: Weslie Brimer, Lauren Downs, Ray, Lilah, & Wilson Thibodeaux, Sarah Lancon, Kayleigh Scott; 9 great-grandchildren: Kayden McIlwain, Brendan Hall, Lesleigh & Grayson Downs, Lexi, Allyson, & Avery Collins, Samuel Lancon, Elizabeth Scott; and beloved friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 12th at Noel United Methodist Church. Visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 and service at 11:00.
Herbert’s leadership, kindness, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
