Hendrik “Hank” Gerrit Hofman, 88, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2023. As per Hank’s request no services will be held at this time.
Hank was born to Tunis and Hendrika Hofman in The Netherlands. At a young age, Hank met and married the love of his life, Sophia. In January 1959, they came to the United States to begin a new life. They arrived in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Moving to Indiana shortly thereafter, Hank began a long and successful career as a Volkswagen mechanic. Hank loved making gifts from wood for his family. Each piece was perfected with love. As a young man, in The Netherlands he played soccer and never lost his love of the game. Spent several years coaching at Notre Dame and coaching the game from his recliner. He saw beauty through the lens of his camera. He loved to tease his family, always making them smile with his antics and jokes. His four-legged babies were always at his side.
Waiting in Heaven for Hank are his wife, Sophia, and son David. He is survived by daughters, Yvonne Savitske and husband Michael, and Denise Mason and husband Russell; eight grandchildren, Samantha Howell and husband Stephen, Jessica Holton and husband Jon, Katherine Smith and husband Fred, Britteny Salzer, Hendrik Mason, Trevor Hofman, Allie Hofman, and Josie Hofman; six great-grandchildren, Sophia Howell, Eli Howell, Andy Howell, Vander Holton, Taylor Salzer, and Kye Salzer; sisters, Johanna Hofman Van Otterlo and Wihelmina Hofman Starink; and many other family members and friends.
Hank loved his family with a deep sincere passion. His legacy will continue for many generations, as his family passes on memories he leaves behind. Rest in peace my friend.
