A private graveside service for Harold LaReed Porter, 89, was held at the Lay Cemetery (Red River Baptist Church) in Benton, Louisiana on Friday, January 20, 2023. Harold was ushered into God’s kingdom on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, surrounded by his loving family with song, praise and thanksgiving.

2 Corinthians 5:8, “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”

Harold will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends.  He is survived by his Haughton High School sweetheart, wife for 69 years, Janice; their children Leslie Harold Porter (and wife Terri), Danny R. Porter, Kenny R. Porter (and wife Deborah); his grandchildren Jennifer Welch (and her husband Shannon), Amanda Hogenkamp (and her husband Ron), Katelyn Porter (and her fiancé, Jason); numerous great grandchildren, Garrett, Gage, Graham, Kelsey (and husband Matt), Ron-Hunter, Braylin, Brantley, Remington, and one great great grandchild, Maddox.  In addition, he is survived by one sister, Joyce Wooten (and husband Wayne), a brother-in-law, Jimmy Gibson (and wife, Mary Ann), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Harold’s family members that preceded him in death are his father, Emmett Porter, his mother, Sudie Walker Porter, his brother, Aubrey Euell Porter (and wife, Thelma Horton), his sister, Seldon Owens (and husband, Juele), and his brother Kenneth Porter (and wife Christine Crouch).

Harold proudly served his country as a United States Marine, a retired Louisiana State Police officer, safety director for Enron Oil, court security supervisor for the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, and a greeter at Calvary Baptist Church.

The family would like to thank all of Harold’s doctors and caregivers and for all of those who sent prayers his way.  Those prayers were answered as he is now healed and with a new glorified body - to God be the glory.

The best advice Harold could give to anyone is to know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.

Go rest high on that mountain, Dad.
