Gene A. Holland was born February 14. 1948 in Baltimore, MD to Cecil J. Holland, Jr. and Virginia Weatherholt. Sadly Gene passed away May 31, 2021 with his family by his side.
Gene was raised in Baltimore and graduated Dundalk High School and attended Dundalk Community College. Shortly after, Gene joined the U.S. Coast Guard to serve his country. He proudly served from 1966 to 1972. During this time, he served one tour in Vietnam. After his service, he started a 25 year career with General Motors and transferred to Shreveport in 1982. Retirement was not for Gene so he decided to go back to work for the City of Shreveport Works, and worked for another ten years.
During his off time, he loved to travel to exciting places and live life to the fullest. He squeezed happy times and good times out of life. Believing life was short so enjoy it while you can, and never look back. His anthem was Wild Horses-you can’t drag me away, and You Can’t Always Get What You Want-but if you try sometimes you’ll find you get what you need.
Preceded Gene in death is his father, Cecil J. Holland, Jr. and mother, Virginia Weatherholt. He is survived by wife of 51 years, Lorraine Holland; daughter, Gina Davis and husband Robert E. Davis, III; grandson, Nash E. Davis; step-father, John Weatherholt; in-laws, Dollie Davis, and Khristopher VanRoosendaal; and many cousins, extended family, and friends.
Gene loved life but most of all he loved his family. He taught his family many things, but how to love and live life to the fullest will be his legacy. A private celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
