Garry Gene Jefferson passed from this life to reside in heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, one day before his 80th birthday on Thanksgiving, November 24, 2022. Visitation for Garry will be Tuesday, November 29th at 5:00 pm and the funeral will be Wednesday, November 30th at 1:00 pm, at Boone Funeral Home in Bossier City.
Garry was born on November 25, 1942 in Eugene, Oregon. He was the eldest son of Eugene Jefferson and Alphia Fleenor Jefferson, both of whom preceded him in death.
Garry moved to east Texas as a young boy and attended schools there and graduated from Center High School in 1961. After high school, Garry enlisted in the United States Air Force.
He served 21 years as Military Police, which is now known as Security Forces. He was stationed in several places to include Spain and Germany and served our country in a tour in Vietnam. He also served at several bases in the United States including Massachusetts, Montana and Texas, where he received an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He served as Presidential Guard for President Lyndon B. Johnson. Garry retired in 1981 and made his home in Bossier City, Louisiana.
After the Air Force, Garry worked as a Security Guard, a United States Marshall and ultimately formed his own insurance brokerage company. He worked in the insurance business until he retired again.
In 1991, Garry became a Charter member of the Ark-La-Tex Chapter of the Security Forces Association. He has served as Chairman and Treasurer on the local level. He was recognized by his fellow members for his service to the chapter as an outstanding recruiter and another time for his leadership and was presented a plaque for each of these honors. He was elected to the National Board of Directors and has served several terms at that level. A few years ago, he was elected to the Hall of Fame by his peers.
Garry is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary Nell Rhodes Jefferson. He is also survived by his daughters: Lori Lynn Jefferson Miklos, and husband Lt. Colonel Quinten Miklos and Dr. Pamela Lee Boliew and Jessy Wiley. He is survived by his sons Keith Jefferson and wife, Jill and Michael Jefferson. Also left to honor his memory are his grandchildren, Steven Miklos and his wife, Stephanie, Jonathan Miklos, Riley Grace Mitcham, Bodey Lee Mitcham, Logan Jefferson and Morgan Jefferson.
