Memorial services for Dr. Francis Van Dyke Hagaman will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel, where he was a member. A reception will follow the services at the church. Van passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at The Glen Village Health Care, where he had lived since 2007 and had a long struggle with Parkinson?s. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dr. Frances Nixon Hagaman; his sons, Lee Nixon Hagaman and wife Stacie Lippert Hagaman, Frederick Trotter Hagaman and wife Sonia Cardwell Hagaman; daughter, Susan Love Irwin and husband Daniel Irwin; grandchildren, Lauren and Sydney Hagaman of Tyler, Texas, Katherin and Jonah Irwin of Arlington, Texas and Sarah Cardwell of Pineville, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents Dr. and Mrs. A. Van Dyke Hagaman, and grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. R. L. Hagaman and Chief Justice and Mrs. Virgil Griffith. Van was born November 28, 1937 in Jackson, MS and was educated in public schools in Jackson where he graduated from Central High School. He received a B.A. and M.D. from the University of Mississippi where he was a member of Phi Delta Thea. He interned at Southern Baptist Hospital, New Orleans and did his residency in Radiology at Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, Texas. As a captain in the Air Force, he was stationed at Tinker AFB, OK. A board certified Radiologist he practiced in Longview, Texas, Marshal, Texas and Shreveport, LA where he was chief of Radiology at Overton Brooks Veterans Medical Hospital. The Van Hagaman Trophy is presented each year to one student from each summer sailing session at The Shreveport Yacht Club. The student is selected by the instructors and trainers who feel best exemplifies the ?Corinthian Spirit?-a code of conduct that emphasis character, integrity, respect, good judgment, courtesy and unselfishness. The family would like to thank all the staff of The Village Health Care at The Glen for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Shreveport Yacht Club Sailing Education Program or the First Presbyterian Church Library.
