Frances Marie Scarborough Holmes, 93, of Rocky Mount, La was born Dec 22, 1930 and left this world on Friday October 18. She has finally been reunited with her adoring husband, Thomas Henry Holmes. She was the apple of his eye.
They had no children, but she was blessed to be Aunt Franc to all she met. She was an ornery one—stubborn and sweet. Her sister said she came in this world looking like a hairless rat. Her mother told her that her head was bent back to her feet and the doctors put her in a bowl of ice, saying she wouldn’t make it. Her mother took her home anyway and fed her with an eye dropper. She had a hard start in life but was proud of every year she got on this earth and took advantage of it. She referred to us as her babies or “my precious darlings”. The nurses, CNA’s, and staff at Cypress Point cherished her as much as her family did. In the end, she spent the day surrounded by family and took her last breath as her niece Lisa was kissing her goodbye. She may not have birthed children, but she was the matriarch of our family. We will miss her but we know that she is at peace and finally with our Big Tom. I’m sure she’s strumming her auto harp as he picks his mandolin upstairs. She will be laid to rest next to him at New Bethel Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, La.
