Elisha LaNette Sellers Colbert

March 5, 1973-February 3, 2025

Bossier City- A memorial service honoring the life of Elisha LaNette Colbert was held on February 12, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints chapel in Bossier City.  Officiating at the service was Bishop Mike Billings.  Margaret d'Aquin gave the Eulogy.

Elisha was a member of the Church's Relief Society and President Melissa Nelson spoke on behalf of all Relief Society Sisters to mourn her loss and to recognize the indelible mark she made in their lives and hearts.

Elisha LaNette Sellers was born in Bossier City.  Her childhood was spent here and in Benton.  Her parents are Robert James and Barbra Sellers.  Elisha's siblings are Robert James Jr., Benjamin, and Trish Sellers.  Her husband, Jim Colbert is deceased.

She and Jim both loved horses.  They met at Louisiana Downs Racetrack in Bossier City where she worked in the stables and where Jim owned and trained horses.  Caring for horses was a lifelong pursuit for Elisha as she was introduced at age eight to her first Shetland pony.  Her family agreed that she was a better trainer than her father.  In her adult years she enjoyed rodeo participation and racing competition held at the Benton Training Center.

Her family moved to Houston, Texas when Elisha was a teenager.  Her athletic participation in both Junior high and high school was running in the track program.  After graduation she wanted to enlist in the Air Force but was turned down because of ill health.  That turned her attention to Nursing as a career.

After their marriage, Jim realized how much she enjoyed "learning" and seemed to be starved for knowledge.  He encouraged her to return to college.  She attended Eastern Oklahoma College and earned her Associate Degree in Mathematics in 2009 at age thirty-five.

Elisha was well known for her big-hearted and loving nature, taking in the less fortunate people who needed a temporary home.  All people who knew her well was aware that sharing her love and devotion for her Savior, Jesus Christ was predominant in her life.
