After a long and full life, Edward A. McCann passed away on February 11, 2023 in the North Louisiana Veterans Home. He was 90 years old. Ed McCann was the proud owner and CEO of Community Events a fundraising company that worked with police and fire departments in the Midwest to raise money for their professional associations. Community Events proudly sponsored concerts and sports events featuring well known country western singers or sports events with professional football players inclined to spend their off-season time in a fun and playful competition with local officers that could be enjoyed at the neighborhood level. Mr. McCann was appreciated for his good humor and jovial presence.
He is survived by his two daughters: Mary Catherine Thomas (Frank Thomas), daughters Josie Pine & Catherine Lawrence and Jennie Curtis.
Ed McCann was born in and was a long-time resident of Detroit, Michigan. He is the oldest son of Elenor and James McCann and one of five siblings (Jim, Lorraine, Patrick, Paul) and the last to pass away. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean war. He married
Barbara Guzik in 1960, who is the mother of Cathy (Mary) and Jennie. He later married Barbara Sullivan and will rest next to her at Mt. Olivet cemetery in Detroit, Michigan.
A memorial for Edward McCann will be held in Royal Oak, Michigan this summer. He was a beloved father,
brother, uncle, and friend and will be deeply missed.
