Edna Marie Pettit Shreveport, LA Mrs. Edna Marie Pettit, age 87, passed away peacefully at 3am July 5, 2010 at the Glen Retirement Home. She left this world for the next with no regrets or unfulfilled desires. Mrs. Pettit was born April 26, 1923, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She grew up in a caring home with two sisters, one brother and loving parents. While in Cape, she worked for Woolworth's, an optical company and Sinclair Oil. She was married to Ralph "Pink" Pettit, a WWII naval veteran, a crane operator who was killed in a work accident. She survived a wreck, but the result of her injuries were felt throughout her remaining years. She was the primary care giver for her ill mother for several years and after her death she moved to Shreveport in 1956 to be nearer to her sister Dot and her family. When Edna Marie first came to Shreveport, she began work for Lambert Landscaping Company. From there she went to work for Hudson-Rush Company as the Office Manager and served in that capacity until her retirement. One of the events in her life that she was most proud, was during her association with Morley Hudson, she was able to aid Mr. Hudson in his efforts to enact legislation to make public buildings handicapped accessible in Louisiana She was a long time member of 1 st Lutheran Church in Shreveport, serving in the choir for many years. She also belonged to Desk and Derrick Sorority and the Republican Women's Association. She was a huge Elvis fan and made sure that her nieces and nephews were able to see many of his movies at the various old downtown theaters. She was a very loving and giving aunt to all her nieces and nephews. Edna never met a stranger and all her friends will miss her deeply. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Pettit, parents Oscar and Bertha (Bud) Stein, her sisters Dorothy Spalding and Lily Sinai and her brother Oscar Stein Jr .. She is survived by nieces Mary Ellen Thomas, Rosemary Morris, Nancy McCarty and Beverly Gibson and nephews Don Spalding, Scott Spalding and Steve Spalding. She also had several grand nieces and nephews and two great nephews Roman Ogrodowicz and Liam Gibson. Her wish was to be cremated and her ashes placed in the Mississippi River, which she dearly loved. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Any memorial should be a donation to your favorite charity. The family would like to thank the staff of the Glenview Gardens Retirement Community, the Glen Retirement Home and Christus Schumpert Hospice for their help and aid during this difficult time. The aid of Robin, Ellen, Betty and Patrica was greatly appreciated.
