Dorcas Mae Cordill McCormick, born on July 29, 1928, lived a long and fulfilling life. She passed away peacefully on August 28, 2024.
Dorcas was the beloved mother of four: Bruce Kim McCormick, Keith Lee McCormick, Aleta Ruth Young (husband Glynn), and Scott Lane McCormick. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her infant son Paul, her husband Clarence Woods (CW) McCormick, Jr., and her parents Tunis and Dorothy Cordill, Dorcas's spirit endures through her family.
Married to CW while a junior in college, Dorcas devoted the first twenty years of her marriage to being a stay-at-home mother and homemaker. After raising her children, she returned to school, completing her degree at Centenary College of Shreveport. She went on to earning a Masters in Library Sciences from LSU Baton Rouge. Dorcas worked as a librarian for twenty years, spending 17 of those years as head librarian at Northwestern School of Nursing, where she made a lasting impact on her colleagues and students.
Dorcas's strength, kindness, and commitment to education shaped the lives of many. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
