SHREVEPORT, LA - Memorial Services will be held Friday, January 3, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home in Bossier City.

Don was born in Bridgewater, Iowa on February 27, 1931, to Floyd C. and Bessie M. Stuart Strong.

He went home to be with the Lord December 28, 2024, at the age of 93.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles, sisters Vera and Kate.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Patricia H. Strong and eight children. Sons Robert, Ronald and Donald “Billy” and their wives. Daughters, Linda, Cindee, Gaye, Trudy, Donna and their husbands. Three sisters, Nadine Avery, Bessie Margaret Wolfe, Joyce Elaine Crabb and one brother, Marvin Dean Strong, 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He lived on farms in Adair County, Iowa until he was nineteen. He graduated from Fontanelle High School. He attended Albuquerque Business College, Albuquerque, NM.

He received the Eagle Scout award in 1949 and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was a leader for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Explorer Scouts.

In 1951 he went to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he became a journeyman iron worker. He was drafted and was trained at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, where he trained in infantry and engineer basic. He rose to the rank of Sgt. He went back to Albuquerque and resumed his position of a journeyman iron worker.

He started working in the office of San Juan Basin Lines and then moved to Ryder Truck Rental from which he retired 32 years later.

He was a founding member of the Albuquerque Full Business Assoc., Faith Tabernacle East Mesa and Calvary Chapel Full Gospel, where he was Minister of Education, Teacher and Treasurer.

From 1993 until 2002 he was a teacher and preacher at Southwest Church of Christ.

After his retirement, he worked from 1987 until 1996 with the Lupus Foundation of Shreveport, becoming its President and Publisher of its newspaper the Lupus Sun.

His friends and neighbors remember him as the guy that always had a joke to tell and the guy that fixed broken stuff and was a true neighbor, there to help in any way he could. He was a loving, caring, compassionate man.
