Don “Slim” Willhite was born in Mount Ida, AR on November 4, 1936. He was 84 when he passed suddenly, September 19, 2021.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Boone Funeral Home, 2156 Airline Drive, Bossier City, LA. A celebration of life service will be 11:00 am, Friday, September 24, 2021 at Boone Funeral Home. The service will be officiated by Rev. Dr. Randy Harper of Bellaire Baptist Church. The family will receive guests Thursday (5-7 pm) at Boone.
Don retired from the United States Air Force after serving his country for thirty-four years. He was a journeyman sheet metal worker that loved hunting fishing, gardening, beekeeping, and working on anything for himself and enjoyed helping others. Don never met a stranger and was very conservative with money. He married the love of his life, Bertie, in 1960 and they became proud parents on August 20, 1962.
Don was preceded in death by his father, Plez Wilhite, and his mother, Evelyn Fendley, and brother Grady Wilhite. Sisters Dorthy Elkins, Eunice Woodson, and Helen Webb also preceded Don in death.
He is survived by his wife Bertie and son Donny, along with his brother Rex Wilhite and sister Jewel. He is also survived by three grandsons Donny, Grady, and Cody. He leaves six great grandkids and a host of family and friends. Pallbearers are Cody Wilhite, Grady Wilhite, Donny Wilhite, Jeremy Gordano, Tracy Smith, and Rex Wilhite Jr.
